名人教英文：「江湖」的英文？
如果「点心」可以用广东话音译dim sum，「气功」就以普通话音译qi gong，那「江湖」英文就可以系gong woo、jiang hu？
不可以，因为江湖一词，纵是中国文化特色，确没有对等的英文用字—— there is simply not an english equivalent —— 但却在不同情况有不同解释，不能就用发音代替。江湖也者，要视乎讲的是忠是奸，抑或不忠不奸﹕
正面﹕fraternity、brotherhood。像「江湖」义气，是spirit of brotherhood。（当然，若讲究性别平等，讲sisterhood 都得。）
反面﹕underworld﹔即criminal world、gangland、mobsterland，统称黑帮。「江湖」人物即a gangster、mobster。
中性﹕像「人在江湖，身不由己」这句话，英文可说︰
out there, you're not your own boss. 「在外头，你不是自己的老板。」即要听令于人。
in this business, you can only follow the mob. 「在这行头，你只能跟大队。」这句就兼有「随波逐流」之意。
