Typhoon Malakas, the 16th major storm of the season, weakened in the East China Sea as it turned toward the southwest coast of Japan.
The storm brought high tides, heavy rain and strong winds, which battered the coastline and caused heavy damage throughout parts of eastern China.
Together with Typhoon Meranti, the two storms left 29 people dead and 15 missing in five provincial-level Chinese regions as of Monday.
Regions affected include the Shanghai Municipality and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi.
