MSCI will add Alibaba Group, Baidu-dot-com and 12 other US-listed Chinese companies, mostly tech-oriented names, to its emerging market index on December 1st. The move makes MSCI the first indexer to include these shares.
Analysts say the move will increase the presence of tech companies in the index, which is more reflective of China’s domestic consumption. Some analysts say the inclusion could be a step towards the eventual addition of mainland-listed China "A" stocks, which MSCI opted to exclude from its global indices in June.
