Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has met with China's visiting Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Gong Xiaosheng in the West Bank city of Ramallah. They discussed the regional situation and peace talks between Palestine and Israel.
Gong said the regional situation has become increasingly complicated and many countries have gone through turmoil. He noted China is concerned about the situation and will cooperate with the international community to promote stability in the Middle East.
The special envoy also called on Palestine and Israel to break the deadlock in order to resume peace talks as soon as possible. Abbas appreciated China's efforts and said Palestine is willing to further develop bilateral ties with China.
Gong also met with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and chief negotiator Saeb Erekat on Sunday. He also introduced the "Belt and Road" initiative during the visit.
"It is possible that the 'Belt and Road' initiative will become an important part of the Middle East peace process in the future. We hope to make contributions to the peace in the Middle East through pushing forward the initiative. We also hope the 'Belt and Road' initiative will bring hopes, opportunities and peace to people in the region, especially the people of Palestine, Syria and other conflict affected areas," he said.
