The Chinese government is calling on Mexico to properly handle the fallout from the suspension of a multi-billion dollar high-speed railway project in the Latin American country.
A spokesperson for the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top planner, said today that China regrets Mexico's decision to suspend the 3.75 billion U.S. dollar project that would have connected Mexico City with the central state of Queretaro.
The spokesperson also said that Mexico needs to properly deal with the massive amounts of manpower and money that Chinese companies invested in the project bidding process and to carry out measures for additional bilateral cooperation. Mexico suspended the railway project on Friday, citing budget cuts triggered by low oil prices.
