A China-Mexico joint consortium once again tendered a bid on Wednesday for a high-speed railway project in Mexico after the Latin American country abruptly annulled its prospects two months ago.
New bidding for the high-speed rail project will open for 180 days. Bidders need to submit tenders by July 14th and the winner will be announced on July 31st. The 210-kilometer high-speed railway connects Mexico City with the industrial hub of Queretaro to the north. Upon completion, the rail will be able to transport 27-thousand passengers per day.
The Chinese-led consortium, formed by the China Railway Construction Corporation and several Mexican construction firms, won the bid last November. However, Mexico revoked the 4.4 billion US dollar deal days later due domestic issues. Despite the high-profile setback, the Chinese enterprise has decided to re-enter the bidding for the railway project.
