China will complete construction of railways with a total length of 800 kilometers in the Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei region this year, according to the deputy director of the Beijing Railway Administration, Zhu Huigang.
Zhu also said a high speed railway to connect Beijing and Zhangjiakou, a famous ski town 180 kilometers to the northwest of Beijing, is set to break ground this year.
"Beijing will begin railway projects with a total length of 800 kilometers in the region around Beijing. A railway that runs from the outskirts of Beijing and Tianjin to Binhai new district, along the east coast of Tianjin, is expected to start operation in September. The railway connecting Beijing to Baoding will begin running by the end of this year," he said.
“And there is also the Zhang Tang railway, all these railways have a total length of 800 kilometers, accounting for one tenth of completed railway projects in the whole country. And construction of a high-speed railway connecting Beijing to Zhangjiakou will start construction this year.”
