After the resolution was vetoed, the Palestinian representative criticized the Security Council members for inaction, while the Israeli delegate called the draft resolution "preposterous" and "unilateral".
"It is thus most regrettable that the Security Council remains paralyzed, unable to act, to uphold its own responsibilities in this regard, with all of the implications this has for peace and security in the Middle East and beyond," says Riyad Mansour, Palestinian Permanent Observer.
"The Palestinians have found every possible opportunity to avoid direct negotiations with Israel. They have engaged in a never ending string of political games and now they are parading into this council with a preposterous unilateral proposal. I have news for the Palestinians. You cannot agitate and provoke your way to a state, I urge the Council to stop indulging the Palestinians and put an end to the march of folly," says Israel Nitzan, Israeli delegate.
