Friends and family members of those on board the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 have gathered in airports in Surabaya, Indonesia and Singapore. The wait for any news of their loves ones, is proving excruciating.
At Juanda Airport in Surabaya from where the plane departed, some families have been poring over the limited information available again and again. Some are calling to update their families and friends, although there is nothing new to report.
For others, the tension is too much.
This man, Purnomo, was scheduled to take the same flight as his two friends and their five family members. But he cancelled at the last minute. Just before the plane took off, his friend called to greet him. They were supposed to meet in Singapore for New Year's Day.
At the other end of the flight's route, the same scenes.
Relatives gathered at Singapore's Changi Airport, desperate for information about their loved ones.
Governments and agencies have come together. The search for the plane continues. And with it, the agonizing wait for these families and friends.
