CAIRO, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian military on Saturday urged concerned parties to join the upcoming national dialogue, stressing that dialogue is the best and only way to reach an agreement.

Military spokesman Ahmed Ali said in a statement that " Disagreement is not in the interests of any parties... The whole nation will pay for the price of disagreement," adding that disagreement between fellow citizens is understandable, but resorting to violence is unacceptable.

According to the statement, the military has always sided with Egyptian people and is keen to preserve national unity.

The statement came as Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is scheduled to meet Saturday with representatives of opposition parties and other national figures to find a solution for the ongoing crisis triggered by the president's constitutional declaration.

Morsi issued a constitutional declaration on Nov. 22, expanding his powers and making all his decrees issued since he came into office final and above judicial appeal, which triggered waves of protests nationwide and recent deadly clashes between his opponents and supporters.

In an attempt to end the turmoil, Morsi delivered a speech on Thursday evening inviting opposition for dialogue, but the initiative was declined by the main opposition bloc National Salvation Front led by former diplomat and liberal politician Mohamed ElBaradei and former Arab League chief Amr Moussa.

A few opposition parties, including Ghad al-Thawra (future of revolution), Al-Wasat (Moderation), Al-Hadara (Civilization), Al- Adl (Justice) and Masr al-Qawiya (Strong Egypt), have responded to the president's invitation for talk.
