RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Dominic Thiem progressed to the last 16 of the Rio Open on Tuesday by defeating Brazilian Felipe Meligeni in three sets.
The Austrian recovered from a second-set lapse to win 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in two hours and four minutes on the outdoor clay of the Jockey Club Brasileiro.
He will meet Spaniard Jaume Munar on Wednesday for a place in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 event. Munar overcame Italian Salvatore Caruso 7-5, 6-4 earlier on Tuesday.
Second seed Dusan Lajovic also made to earn his place in the round of 16, needing two hours and 16 minutes to defeat Marco Cecchinato 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.
On Wednesday, the Serb will face another Italian, Lorenzo Sonego, who beat Leonardo Mayer 6-1, 5-7, 6-5.
Croatian fifth seed Borna Coric also booked a place in the next round with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Argentinian Juan Londero.
