WARSAW, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Polish officials on Monday congratulated the creators of the film Ida on winning the Oscar award for best foreign language film.
Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski said the award for Ida should be a source of satisfaction for all Poles. He expressed hope that it could contribute to the promotion of Poland, Polish culture and to raising the level of awareness about the country in the world.
"I hope that everyone can see it as an evidence of Poland becoming more attractive as a country, showing extremely valuable content to the world," he added.
Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz and other officials congratulated director Pawel Pawlikowski, saying the success of Ida was not a coincidence, as it was "based on good organization and the hard work of its creators and actors."
The 87th Academy Awards on Sunday marked the first time for a Polish film to win the coveted awards. The film has already won many reputable prizes, including the BAFTA for best foreign film, best film at the European film awards, London Film Festival award and many others.
Ida is a black-and-white movie telling the story of a Polish novice nun in the 1960s who discovers she is a Jewish girl. Together with her aunt, they set out to find out what happened to their family during World War II. The main roles are played by Agata Trzebuchowska and Agata Kulesza.
