LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. singer and songwriter Neil Diamond was honored with a star on the famed Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, capping a prolific career which spanned almost five decades.
"It makes me part of the Hollywood culture, American culture and I think it's important and fun for that reason, and I'm happy to be part of this activities, support Hollywood around the world," Diamond said at a late-morning ceremony held on the sidewalk along the avenue, one of the most recognized spot in Hollywood.
As one of the most-decorated singers in America, Diamond began his career by writing songs for established songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. In 1966 he signed with Atlantic Records' Bang Records label, and ushered in a successful career which including his first hit "Solitary Man,"which established his fame in the music world.
Diamond was widely regarded as the third most successful adult contemporary artist ever on the Billboard chart behind Barbra Streisand and Elton John. He has sold more than 125 million albums worldwide. Fifty-six songs were recognized at Billboard's Hot 100.
The singer was introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
