The year 2009 was an extraordinary year for politics, so what does 2010 hold? Let's get right to our next story on politics with the stories we'll be watching heading into next year, Domenico Montanaro is a political reporter for NBC News. Domenico, what do you have for us?

You know, tomorrow is new year's day, so obviously there's not a lot going on politically there. Sure the president will ring in the New Year Hawaiian style. But, you know there’s a lot to watch next year, some of the things that we've got, two healthcare bills that need to be merged, and there'll be a lot of other legislator fights to come.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are obviously big fights; national security was a big fight has been this past week. And we have the 2010 mid-term elections, certainly there're going to be a lot to watch there whether or not Republicans make inroads in the possibility to take back the House and you know, there's going to be a lot that we are going to have to see there for the consequences of the balance of power in Congress.

And then as far as, Domenico, as far as the terror bomer, er, the president's going to be back in Washington doing some meetings Tuesday. Is the political fight dead for now over that?

I don't think so. I mean, you know, this past week one thing that the Republicans benefit from is there is nothing else going on. So of course, the story has got a lot of legs because there are no other fights right now, there is nothing else to kind of be able to talk about. But, you know, one of the things that we are going to be watching is still whether or not, you know, Republicans are able to keep the story going. You know, there’s a lot of eyes and teeth that look like they need to be dotted and crossed. We are not sure that they’ve all been made yet.
