今天讲的是 "一……就……"
中五同学刚学了 "…on sooner…than"、 "…scarcely … when"及 "…hardly…when"的句型，故在最近的一次作文中，同学们即大量使用这三个句型。我虽然为之欣然，但同时亦发现很多同学由于没有熟记这三个句型，而写了不少错句。例如：
(×) I had no sooner closed the door when the telephone rang.
(×) I had scarcely gone out than it began to rain.
(×) I had hardly closed my eyes than I remembered I hadn't done my maths homework.
同学应紧记这三个关连词的配搭。no sooner是与 than 配合的，而scarcely和hardly 则与when 配合。故上面的句子应为：
(√) I had no sooner closed the door than the telephone rang.
我一关上门，电话铃就响了。
(√) I had scarcely gone out when it began to rain.
我一出门，天就下走雨来。
(√) I had hardly closed my eyes when I remembered I hadn't done my maths homework.
我刚闭上眼睛，才记起我还没有做数学家庭作业。
同学同时需要注意动词的时态。在no sooner、hardly及scarcely所引导的从句中，动词应为过去完成式(Past Perfect Tense)，并且 no sooner、hardly及scarcely都是放在 "had" 与主要动词(Main Verb)之间的。而在 than及when后的动词则为一般过去式 (Simple Past Tense)。
请看下面的例子：
The clown had no sooner appeared on the stage than the audience burst out laughing.
The clown had hardly/scracely appeared on the stage when the audience burst out laughing.
那小丑一出现在舞台，就引得观众哄堂大笑。
如果no sooner, hardly, scarcely 放在句首，那么had 要放在主语之前，用倒装语序。
请注意下面的例子
No sooner had I come home than it began to rain.
我一到家，就开始下雨了。
Hardly had he fallen asleep when he felt a soft touch on his elbow.
他刚入睡，就感觉到有人轻触他的胳膊肘。
上面的关连词虽然不同，但它们所表达的意思却是一样，都是表达"一……就…"或"刚……就……"
