compile, edit
这两个动词均含“编辑”之意。
compile : 通常指根据搜集、整理的资料编辑词典或汇编文集。
It takes years of hard work to compile a good dictionary.（编辑一部好词典需要数年的艰苦工作。）
edit : 普通用词，含义广泛。指校订、编辑他人待出版的著作，也指对杂志、报刊的稿件进行编辑、编排加工。
He edited a book of poetry carefully.（他认真地编辑了一本诗集。）
complain, grumble, murmur
这些动词均含“抱怨、埋忽”之意。
complain : 侧重因对处境不满、待遇不公或自己有痛苦等而向别人诉说、埋怨。
She often complains that he is dishonest.（她常埋怨说他不诚实。）
grumble : 指因对处境、待遇不满或其他个人因素而愤愤不平地向他人诉苦或自言自语。
Why grumble at me about your own stupid mistakes?（你自己犯了愚蠢的错误, 为什么向我抱怨?）
murmur : 多指因不满某人或某事而背着人自言自语地发怨言。
As she denounced the government's policy, the crowd murmured their approval.（当她抨击政府的政策时, 听众叽叽咕咕地表示赞同。）
