People in the United States don’t always shake hands when they introduce one to another, however, in the formal or business situation, people almost always shake hands.

Man: Mary, this is Joe's brother David.

Mary: I am very glad to meet you.

David: It's a pleasure to meet you.

Mary: How do you like Texas (德克萨斯州) so far?

David: It's really different from what I expected.

Mary: don't worry, you’ll get used to it in no time.

2. Meeting old friends

many people shake hands when meeting after they haven't seen each other for a long time.

Man: I haven't seen you for ages. You haven't been sick, have you?

Woman: No, I've been to California for the past month.

Man: How nice! Where were you exactly?

Woman: San Diego(圣地亚哥).I got back yesterday.

Man: It's nice to see you again. Have you changed jobs?

Woman: No, I’ve been visiting relatives.

Man: That's nice, where?

Woman: I went to visit an uncle of mine in San Francisco(圣弗朗西斯科)

3. Saying goodbye.

When you are far from friend’s family, you can keep in touch with them by letters, postcards, short notes or phone calls.

Man: I come to say goodbye.

Woman: When are you off?

Man: I am flying home on Sunday afternoon

Woman: Well, goodbye, see you soon.

Man: Please don't forget to say goodbye to the rest of the family for me.

4. Saying thank you.

When someone invites you for dinner, you can bring flowers, candy, or a bottle of wine,. Sometimes people send the thank you note to the host or hostess a few days after the event.

Man: I'd better be going.

Woman: so soon, why don't you stay a litter longer?

Man: I wish I could, it's already late.

Woman: What a shame that you have to leave..

Man: Thank you for your wonderful dinner.

Woman: I am glad you enjoyed it.
