LAGOS, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria and the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), both of which dominated at the just concluded African Table Tennis Club Championships, confirmed their places in this year's International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Club Championships, local media reported Tuesday.
Nigeria's Union Bank Sports Club and Avenis Club of Congo-Brazzaville emerged champions at the tourney held in Brazzaville.
The event, which was attended by teams from Angola, South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cote d'Ivoire, saw both teams playing in the finals of the men and women events.
In the men's final, the southpaw Seun Ajetunmobi-led Union Bankbeat the Saka Suraju-inspired Avenis 3-0 to lift the trophy and moved on to the world tourney, while Ganiat Ogundele's Union Bank team fell 0-3 to Yang Fen-led Avenis in the women's finals.
