(BEIJING, June 29) -- On the eve of the US Olympic swimming trials, Michael Phelps has lightened his load by dropping the 400m freestyle from his schedule.Phelps' name was absent from the 400m freestyle registration list released Saturday night. Phelps' coach, Bob Bowman, had previously indicated that the six-time Gold medal winner would possibly not participate in the event. Currently tied with 1972 American Olympic swimmer, Mark Spitz, for most gold medals won in individual events, Phelps stands a good chance of breaking this record at the 2008 Olympics.Phelps will be competing in the 400 individual medley, in which he currently holds the world record. He will go up against teammate Ryan Lochte who has entered 11 events, but like Phelps is not expected to swim them all.
