(BEIJING, April 7) -- Cheered by the crowd throughout the match, India's national badminton champion Chetan Anand was unable to overcome Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana in the final of the India Open, falling to Ponsana 21-16, 21-12. Zhou Mi of Hong Kong beat China's Lu Lan 21-14, 21-14 to claim the women's title.

It was a dominant performance from Ponsana, who matched Chetan's tricky style of play with some clever shots of his own. Working double shot and flicks into an aggressive plan of attack, the Thai player kept the Indian champion off balance, particularly in the second game.

The women's final was a more cautious affair, with both players using deep lobs and avoiding aggressive play. Said Zhou after winning the tournament, "The shuttle was fast and neither of us wanted to commit mistakes, so we kept playing safe."
