attempt的用法与搭配
表示“企图”“试图”“尝试”等，可用作动词或名词：
1. 表示试图做某事，其后通常不定式。如：
He attempted to leave but was stopped. 他试图要走，但被拦住了。
She attempted to get in touch with them. 她企图和他们联系上。
在现代英语中，有时也接动名词，但不如接不定式普通。
2. 比较以下同义句型（注意后接名词的情形）：
囚犯企图逃跑，但没有成功。
正：The prisoner attempted to escape, but failed.
正：The prisoner attempted an escape, but failed.
他没有企图回答最后一个问题。
正：He didn’t attempt to answer the last question.

3. 用作名词，要表示做某事的企图，其后通常接不定式或at doing sth。如：
He made an attempt to win [at winning] the first prize. 他试图要获头奖。
He failed in his attempt to finish [at finishing] it in time. 他企图要及时完成它，没失败了。
