At least 69 people have been killed in a spate of attacks near the north-eastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri.
Islamic State-affiliated Boko Haram is the prime suspect. It is the bloodiest incident of its kind in Nigeria so far this year.
A military spokesman says militants attacked Dalori, a village about 5 km east of Maiduguri. Suicide bombers attacked a crowd, and gunmen fired on residents and torched their homes.
Some victims were burned beyond recognition. Witnesses say bodies still litter the village. It is the third attack in recent days blamed on Boko Haram, and the most deadly.
Dalori is home to the largest IDP camp in West Africa, what should have been a refuge for those fleeing the violence. The military says the militants tried to break into the camp. But that it beat them back.
Sunday marked exactly one month past the government’s deadline to defeat Boko Haram.
