Seven months before the 2016 Olympics kick off in Rio de Janeiro, officials say preparations are on schedule and under budget. It's no simple feat in the midst of Brazil's punishing economic crisis.
Shooting hoops alongside Brazilian Paralympic athletes and former basketball legends, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes, handed over the completed court in a wheelchair. He broke his foot back in December.
The "Carioca Arena-One," that seats 16,000 people, will stage the Olympic basketball events as well as Paralympic basketball and rugby.
Addressing a press conference, the mayor gave his assurances the games would be properly funded, but said unnecessary spending would be avoided.
Officials say construction of Rio's main Barra Olympic Park is 95 percent complete - while 80 percent of all 29 venues is ready. Organizers promise everything will look as good as this video envisioned by April and expect the cost to come in at 1.9 billion dollars or less.
Amid the cost concerns, Rio is facing pressure to clean contamination found in the city's waterways, mainly in Rio's Guanabara Bay, where the sailing sports will take place.
There is still work to do, but Rio officials promise the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics will be a great spectacle for the world, shielded from Brazil's recession.
