As the investigation into alleged corruption in FIFA continues, one of the key issues moving forward is who will be the next president of football's world governing body. Uruguayan journalist and author Victor Hugo Morales has said Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona has decided to stand as a candidate for the job. Maradona believes he can help restore the public's faith in the scandal-riddled organization.
The 54-year-old has long been a staunch critic of Sepp Blatter and last month said he was "enjoying" the corruption scandal that led the Swiss to announce he would stand down four days after being re-elected as president of FIFA.
After 17 years in charge, Blatter is now facing a 100-million euro FBI probe into allegations of racketeering, money laundery and wire fraud. However like Brazilian Zico, another great former player who has announced his candidacy, Maradona might struggle to get the support of federations from five countries, as required under FIFA statutes.
