Japan approves a revised 40-year roadmap to clean up the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant. The plan delays the removal of spent fuel in storage pools at three melted reactors by up to three years due to safety problems.
According to the plan, authorities will study and locate the melted fuel inside the reactors. Robots will also need to be developed to start collecting debris within six years.
A March 2011 earthquake and tsunami caused three of the six nuclear reactors at Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi station to melt down.
