To the table tennis World Championships, where upstart Fang Bo faced top-ranked teammate Ma Long in the men's singles final. Unbeaten in 2015, the Chinese number one was looking forward to extending his winning streak with a triumph in Suzhou.
This is the first World Championship final for both players, and Ma defeated Fang the last time the two played.
They would split the first two game -- but Ma is in control in the third, up 9-3, when they engage in a terrific rally -- and the World Number One would get the point as his compatriot's return would be out. That helps him grab a 2-games-to-1 lead.
Fang is one game from losing, but he would not go without a fight -- and again the two wage a fantastic rally -- as each tries to overpower the other with smashes, in the end it would be the underdog that claims the point, en route to a 13-11 win, and that forces a sixth game.
But Ma then puts an end to any upset hopes Fang may have been holding -- by clinching the title when his countryman hits it long -- and leaping up on the table in celebration.
"I knew people put a lot of expectations on me in this tournament, so I felt pressure each match. But the good thing about that pressure, whether it was in the semifinals or the finals, is that it pushed me to take my game to an even higher levl," Ma said.
