Thousands of residents on Japan's southern island of Okinawa took to the streets on Tuesday, protesting against Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ignorance on public opinions about the Henoko US military base.
Residents also say that they are disappointed and angry that Abe chose April 28th as the date of the summit with US president Barack Obama. This is because the "Treaty of San Francisco", which put Okinawa under the jurisdiction of the US, was signed this day 63 years ago.
Local residents have long appealed to move the key US air base out of the prefecture, which holds the bulk of US bases in Japan, due to safety concerns.
