Irving knocked down a deep, three-pointer to move the Cavaliers in front 49-48.
Irving dished the ball to James for a bucket in the paint to open up a 13-point lead, midway through the third.
Following some crisp ball movement, Irving sank another three-pointer to make it 84-79.
But James made the big shots in the final moments, putting the Cavaliers a 97-89 ahead with a minute remaining.
