The Saudi armed forces have fired heavy artillery towards Yemen on the border of the two countries. Saudi soldiers deployed along the border in the southern province of Najran opened fire on Wednesday, towards the now abandoned Yemeni village of Mandabah.
But the Saudi military said the security situation is under control, with only limited exchange of fire. The country moved heavy weapons to areas near its border with Yemen last month, as it faced the risk of the turmoil spilling across the border and into its Shi'ite Eastern Province where the country's richest oil deposits lie. Saudi Arabia launched air strikes on Yemen last month, as Yemen's Houthi rebels forced Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee to Riyadh.
