Russia will not comprise by accepting any conditions in order to lift European Union sanctions against Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this on Monday following his meeting with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics in Moscow.
"We aren't going to discuss anything," Lavrov said. "They are absolutely illegitimate, counterproductive, restrictive measures. They hurt everyone, including us. But we will absolutely get out of this situation - even with pluses. Our European partners, who are feeling the negative results of the sanctions should come to the conclusion themselves. It's their problem; it's not our problem."
Lavrov said he had heard inklings that the EU was ready to rethink the measures. The Latvian Foreign Minister said he could see an end to the sanctions, but it depends on both the European Union and Russia, and on Ukraine.
