Twenty months after the Boston Marathon bombing, defendant Dzhokhar Tsarnaev appeared in court in Boston as the jury selection process began.
Tsarnaev sat quietly between his lawyers during Monday's proceedings.
US District Judge George O'Toole said those picked to be the 12 jurors and six alternates will be aware of the bombing, but he reminded prospective jurors that their job would be to consider only the evidence presented in court.
The judge said opening statements by prosecutors and defense lawyers would begin around January 26.
The 21-year-old ethnic Chechen and naturalized US citizen could get the death penalty if convicted of killing three people and injuring more than 260 others on April 15, 2013. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
