A popular holiday resort in the suburbs of Beijing is preparing for a tourism boom. Because the APEC meetings are being held locally, the district of Huairou is expecting many of the attendees to spend their leisure time at its attractions.
At Huairou district in the northern part of Beijing, many come here to pick their own fruit, fresh from the fields. More visitors are slated to visit during the first half of November, to the delight of farmers here. And the APEC meetings are to be held at this fruitful time.
Over three quarters of Huairou is covered in greenery. The district is best known for its mountain views overlooking sections of the Great Wall. It has cultivated a cottage industry of farm stay motels, offering many a short getaway in Beijing from work.
More travelers have come to learn of Huairou, as its name is increasingly intertwined with hosting APEC. The district says it will capitalize on its new publicity as a meeting venue to raise its standards. Huairou district is a must-see for people around Beijing, especially in the deep fall. As world officials gather here during the APEC meetings, even farm owners don’t rule out the possibility they may have some VIP guests from overseas.
