China's water quality has also attracted wide attention. The Ministry of Environmental Protection says, in the year of 2013, the overall quality of surface water were lightly polluted.
More than 90 percent of the total 309 drinking water sources in China were reached the drinking water standard. But the quality for underground water was far from satisfactory. Among 4,700 monitoring points, nearly two-third were polluted or seriously polluted.
The water quality in Huaihe River and Liaohe River were improved compared with 2012, which were slightly polluted. But the other eight water areas, such as Tangtze River, Yellow River, were still suffered polluted. There was no improvement compared with previous year.
