Martial law has been declared in Thailand and troops are visible on the streets. However, Thailand’s acting Justice Minister has assured that the caretaker government is still running the country, with the army only taking charge of security. CCTV correspondent in Bangkok, Tony Cheng reported earlier that military vehicles soldiers are patrolling the streets of the capital.
According to local media reports, soldiers have been deployed at all television stations.They have taken control of the Thaicom satellite base station and Channel 11 television station of the Public Relations Department. Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has given the military the power to ban all kinds of news media from publishing, distributing or selling reports and images which could disturb the peace in the country.
