The death of Chinese-Canadian student, Elisa Lam, who was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel’s water tank earlier this year, has been ruled accidental drowning.
Authorities say the 21-year-old Vancouver student’s bipolar disorder was a significant contribution to her death. Toxicology tests turned up no signs of foul play or drug use.
Elisa Lam went missing on January the 31st, while staying at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. Surveillance video shows Lam acting strangely in a hotel elevator. The bizarre circumstances of her disappearance fuelled speculation she may have been murdered.
A county coroner’s office considers the file closed. An official report on her death will be issued in a week.
