It’s the last day of a three-day US-South Korea naval exercise in waters off the east coast of the Korean peninsula. The exercise is considered as a show of force as speculation abounds over a potential nuclear test by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, the joint maneuver involves an American nuclear submarine and Aegis guided-missile cruiser. Ten South Korean warships are also participating, as well as anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft and maritime helicopters.
The DPRK’s state media has denounced the exercise, saying that the US and South Korea have been plotting to attack the DPRK, and are increasing the danger of a war on the peninsula.
