China is calling for an emergency meeting of delegation heads of the Six-Party Talks, early next month in Beijing. The Chinese, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs, Wu Dawei, says it's necessary, for delegation leaders "to exchange views on major issues of concern."
Wu Dawei, Chinese Rep. for Korean Peninsula Affairs, said, "A series of complicated factors recently emerged on the Korean Peninsula. China believes it is necessary for the heads of the delegations to the Six-Party Talks, to exchange views on these major issues and make a contribution to maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula and easing the tension in northeast Asia."
China: Create conditions to hold talks
Wu Dawei also stressed the proposed consultations, DON't mean a resumption of Six-Party Talks. But, China hopes the meeting will help create conditions for the relaunch of talks, which groups China, the DPRK, South Korea, the Unites States, Russia, and Japan.
South Korea: Proposal should be studied
In response, South Korea's foreign ministry, says China's proposal should be studied deliberately. The ministry, also says, to resume the long-stalled talks, the parties concerned, should first promote various bilateral and multilateral consultations, including inter-Korean talks, within the six-party framework.
