A new investigation of unprecedented scale is being organized to solve the mystery of China's so-called "wild man". Reported sightings of the wild man of Shen-nong-jia in central Hubei province have been tantalizing adventure-seekers.
Previous investigations failed to solve the mystery, and scientists hope the new search will find a living "wild man".
Chinese scientists have altogether made three investigations in Shen-nong-jia, between 1974 and 1981, only to find some indirect evidence. The new research will focus on caves and direct evidence. Investigators will be recruited from around the globe. Roughly 1.5 million US dollars will be raised through non-governmental channels to fund the investigation.
Scientists hope to solve the mystery of the wild man and his evolution, as well as to correct existing misunderstandings. The investigation will begin when funds are ready.
