Friday marks Teachers' Day in China. As a reminder that teachers should be honored for bringing knowledge and morals to students, it inherits the thousand-year tradition of respecting teachers in China.
The proposal of Teachers' Day was passed in 1985 at the 9th meeting of the 6th standing committee of the National People's Congress.
On September 10th, 1985, a grand gathering to celebrate the festival dedicated to teachers was held at Beijing Normal University.
Since then, this once-a-year occasion has become a special time for the appreciation of teachers. Teachers enjoyed high social status in ancient China. Confucius, the greatest educator in China, is still honored by people from China and abroad.
