It was facing that Paul Costelloe should be the first designer out of the gate at London fashion week.
He is, after all, a veteran at this catwalks. And his rich mix of chocolates and creams combined with strong silouettes got things off to an elegant start.
PAUL COSTELLOE: quite conservative, it's quite serious, and it's quite sensible. But that's why I'm...that's my style, that's my attitude.
To mark its 25th anniversary though, organizers wanted to give fashionists something special.
CAROLINE RUSH: The audience is here ready to see something that's new, something exciting. It's what London's about.
And more could be more exciting when bringing some of the biggest British names in fashion back home. Names such as Burberry, which unveiled its new collection. And also designers have sought greener pastures in Paris, Milan and New York. Among them, Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders and Antonio Berardi.
ANTONIO BERARDI: I was born here, and England's my home. And so I haven't shown up for 10 years, to come back, it's a big thing. I'm very very scared.
But he needn't have worried. his collection of silk corsets, mini skirts and Basia dresses shown often in church and glits in May Fair was a sparkling success.
VIRGINIA BATES: He shows us always his clothes. Fabulous, sexy, glamourous...just incredible. Incredible!
The London catwalk shows have usually got less attention than those in other fashion capitals, but hope this dazzling homecoming will raise their profile even further.
