WASHINGTON, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama has ordered a "full review" of the cyberattacks during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, a White House official said Friday.

"We may be crossed into a new threshold and it is incumbent upon us to take stock of that, to review, to conduct some after-action, to understand what this means, what has happened and to impart those lessons learned," Lisa Monaco, a top-level White House counterterrorism and homeland security adviser, said at a media breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.

However, the findings might not be made to the public, she said, noting it will depend on the decision by the intelligence community.

"We want to do so very attentive to not disclosing sources and methods that may impede our ability to identify and attribute malicious actors in the future."she added.

White House accused in October that Moscow, in attempts to disrupt the U.S election, was behind hackers infiltrating the Democratic National Committee and the then Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's campaign.

These allegations were not only denied by the Russian government but also rejected by the now President-elect Donald Trump, who argued there were political motives behind such allegations.
