ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- The African Union (AU) has deployed its election observation mission in the Central African Republic for the upcoming national elections.

Led by Souleymane Ndene Ndiaye, former Prime Minister of Senegal, the mission comprises 40 observers from 18 African countries, according to an AU statement on Friday,

The AU Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) is mandated to assess the regularity, fairness and credibility of the elections, according to the statement.

After the vote, the mission will release its initial findings and conclusions on the electoral process during a press conference, it said.

At the end of the electoral process, the AUEOM will present its detailed assessment on the overall conduct of the elections, in a final report which will be presented to the authorities of the Central African Republic and also published, said the statement.

Elections initially scheduled for December 27 in the Central African Republic have been postponed to December 30, the country's election authority said Thursday.
