GAZA, June 29 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian militant was killed by Israeli artillery fire in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khanyounis on Sunday, witnesses said.

Local witnesses told Xinhua that Israeli artillery fire targeted a group of militants in the eastern part of the city, killing at least one and injuring others.

Hamas-owned al-Aqsa Radio reported that the militant was a member of Izz al-Deen al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Hamas movement.

Israel has not commented on the incident.

Earlier in the day, Israel media said that the country's Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted two rockets fired from Gaza above Netivot, but four more rockets landed in open lands.

Since three Israeli teenagers were abducted in the West Bank two weeks ago, the Gaza Strip has been witnessing a growing tension between Gaza militants and Israel.

Militants have been firing more rockets into Israel, drawing Israeli airstrikes against Hamas and Islamic Jihad training facilities and rocket-launching areas.

In 2012, Israel ended an eight-day aerial offensive on the Gaza Strip after Egypt brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza militants.
