英语文摘:Iran to fire several home-built missiles in naval drill: commander

TEHRAN, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said Sunday that the country's naval forces will launch various types of home-built missiles during the remaining days of the ongoing navy drills, the local satellite press TV reported.

Sayyari announced that in the course of Sunday and Monday's maneuvers, a variety of domestically-manufactured missiles, including torpedoes and surface-to-surface, coast-to-sea and shoulder-launched missiles, would be fired at mock enemy targets, said the report.

Deputy commander of Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi said Sunday that for the first time, Iran test fired anti- radar mid-range missile "successfully" in the ongoing naval drills in its southern waters, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The homemade surface-to-air missile "Mehrab" is equipped with anti-radar and smart systems which enable it to evade interference on its way forward, Mousavi told reporters.

On Dec. 24, the Iranian navy launched a 10-day exercise, dubbed Velayat 90, which covers a length of 2,000 km stretching from the east of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden.
