BERLIN, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Britain intended to play a positive role in Europe and welcomed a strong, stable eurozone economy, while refusing to further transfer powers to the European Union, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Friday on his first trip to Berlin since taking office.

"I want us to work together to achieve the economic stability, the growth and action on European deficits that we know is very much in the interest of all our countries and in the interests of a strong, stable economy which we very clearly need," Cameron said at a press conference after meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

One day after visiting Pairs on his first foreign trip as prime minister, Cameron pledged to forge a "strong and positive partnership" with Germany, the largest economy in Europe. He said the two countries has "lots of agreement on action on deficits."

"I want Britain to be a positive player in Europe," Cameron added.
