PYONGYANG, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) accused South Korea of armed provocation in the eastern part of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on Sunday, the official news agency KCNA reported.
According to the KCNA, the South Korean army entered the DMZ south of Marker No. 1270 of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) and fired 90mm recoilless gun toward a policeman of the DPRK at about 14:07 (0507 GMT) on that day, "thus seriously threatening the safety of civil policemen of the north side on routine duty."
The news agency said the "premeditated provocation" of the South Korean army was designed to "deliberately aggravate" the situation in the DMZ.
The touch-and-go situation in the DMZ was due to such "undisguised military provocation" of South Korea, the news agency added.
On March 29, a spokesman for the Panmunjom Mission of the Korean People's Army (KPA) of the DPRK issued a statement to accuse the South Korean military of allowing 15 media organizations to enter the DMZ and preparing "materials for anti-north smear campaigns."
He stressed, "No person, military or civilian, shall be permitted to enter the Demilitarized Zone except persons concerned with the conduct of civil administration and relief and persons specially authorized to enter by the Military Armistice Commission," according to the Armistice Agreement.
