The 3-D cartoon from DreamWorks Animation, released by Paramount, is predicted to take in 33 million U.S. dollars in sales this weekend, or for a total of 75.5 million dollar gross in 10 days. The animated film, which is a spinoff prequel to the " Shrek" franchise, registered only a three percent drop in receipts from last week. It debuted in 3,367 locations in the United States and Canada, and received generally positive reviews from critics, garnering 69 percent approval rate from 139 critics, or an average rating of 6.2 out of 10, according to review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The film performs better than Murphy's last two live-action films, the 2009 family movie " Imagine That," and the 2008 comedy "Meet Dave." And the "Saturday Night Live" star, who is one of the highest paid actors, was also named, or shamed by the Forbes for its most overpaid entertainers ranking which was published Thursday.

Ranking third is "A Very Harold & Kumar 3-D Christmas," which is estimated to garner a soft 13 million dollars from 2,875 theaters. The film serves as a sequel to the 2008 film "Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay," and is the third installment in the Harold & Kumar film franchise. It features a trio of actors including John Cho, Kal Penn and Neil Patrick Harris, who embarks on an adventure to find a new Christmas tree after Kumar (Penn) destroys the original. Audiences who have watched the film gave it an average B rating, according to market research firm CinemaScore.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular films this weekend are " Paranormal Activity" (8.5 million dollars), "In Time" (7.7 million dollars), "Footloose" (4.6 million dollars), "Real Steel" (3.4 million dollars), "The Rum Diary" (3 million dollars), "The Ides Of March" (2 million dollars), and "Moneyball" (1.9 million dollars).
