Starring Israeli actress Ronit Elkabetz, "Ashes and Blood" is about a woman who returns to Marseille in France with her children following an 18-year absence, after the death of her husband.
"Ashes and Blood" will be screened out of competition on the eve of the finale of the 12-day movie bonanza.
Ardant, 60, has starred in five films that have played at Cannes, most recently Claude Lelouch's "Roman de Gare" in 2007. This year, she also will be seen in front of the camera in Tsai Ming-liang's Competition title "Face."
Ardant has appeared in more than fifty motion pictures and was one of the leading stars of European cinema in the 1980s.
