Idioms:
put out feelers (on someone or something):
to arrange to find out about something in an indirect manner;to try to discover what people think about something that you might do;放出触角;加以试探;谨慎地探听别人的观点

Usage notes:From the context of certain animals using their feelers to gain awareness of their surroundings, as survival readily requires knowledge of nearby threats, food, water, shelter, or mates.

Example:
1. They put out feelers to see if anyone was interested in buying the company.

2. I've been putting out a few feelers and it seems that most people are against changing the way we elect the committee.
