Google has agreed to make some changes to its business practices as a result of a 20-month investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The FTC accused the search giant of "unfair conduct" in the use of its Motorola patents and ordered it to allow others to license them.

Google has agreed to allow advertisers to copy ad campaign data to other search engines among other advertising practices.

But the FTC found no evidence that Google had skewed search results to damage competitors.

FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz described the commission's resolution as a relief.

"Today's action delivers more relief for American consumers faster than any other option available to the Commission and protects competition and consumers in a number of crucial markets central to the daily lives of hundreds of millions of American consumers and businesses."

Alongside the FTC investigation, Google is still under scrutiny from the European Union for similar charges.

If found guilty of breaching EU anti-trust rules, Google would face a fine of up to 4 bln dollars.
